Sustainable Bio-construction
The architectural matrix of Misminay does not depend on cement or steel. Adobe is the ultimate passive construction technology. We extract clay from the surrounding soil, kneading it roughly with water and wild straw (ichu). Once sun-dried, these mud blocks become structural modules of formidable compressive strength.
Thermal Mechanics
The genius of adobe lies in its massive thermodynamic insulation. During the day, when solar radiation hits the walls, the mud slowly absorbs the heat (thermal inertia). At night, when the temperature drops below zero, the adobe progressively radiates that stored heat into the rooms, operating as a centralized ecological heating system.
Structural Resilience
The gabled roofs, crowned with baked clay tiles, are algorithmically calculated to repel torrential rains and withstand the weight of hailstorms without fracturing the adobe base. Learning to make adobe during our vivential experiences is learning to forge a protective shield against the harsh Andean weather.
